# What You'll Need:

→ Fruits & Vegetables

01 - 1 medium apple, peeled, cored, and grated
02 - 1 medium carrot, peeled and grated

→ Dry Ingredients

03 - 2 cups whole wheat flour or gluten-free oat flour
04 - ½ cup rolled oats

→ Binding Ingredients

05 - 1 large egg
06 - ⅓ cup unsweetened applesauce
07 - 2 tablespoons water, adjusted as needed

# Directions:

01 - Preheat oven to 350°F and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
02 - In a large bowl, mix grated apple, grated carrot, flour, and oats until thoroughly combined.
03 - Add egg and applesauce to the mixture, stirring until dough forms. If too dry, incorporate water 1 tablespoon at a time until proper consistency is achieved.
04 - On a lightly floured surface, roll dough into sticks approximately 4 inches long and ½ inch thick.
05 - Place sticks on prepared baking sheet with slight spacing between each piece.
06 - Bake for 40 to 45 minutes until sticks are golden brown and firm to the touch. For enhanced crunch, turn off oven and allow sticks to cool inside for an additional hour.
07 - Let chew sticks cool completely before offering to your dog.

# Expert Tips:

01 -
  • Your dog will absolutely know the difference between these and store bought treats, I promise
  • The ingredients are so basic and trustworthy you could honestly eat them yourself
  • Making something with your own hands for your pup feels surprisingly meaningful
02 -
  • Leaving the chews in the turned off oven for an extra hour creates that satisfying crunch dogs love
  • Always introduce new treats gradually and watch for any digestive upset in your pup
03 -
  • If your dough is too sticky to handle, refrigerate it for 15 minutes before shaping
  • Thicker chews will last longer but thinner ones are better for smaller dogs or training rewards
